Tippin' is an instrumental jazz composition in the hard bop style, written by the American pianist and composer Horace Silver (1928-2014), who is its sole credited writer. The piece has no lyrics. Its best-documented recording is by the Horace Silver Quintet, made on June 15, 1958, and the track runs six minutes and twelve seconds.
Blue Note issued the recording in 1958 on the 45-1710 single, where it is paired with "Señor Blues" by the same quintet. One track listing places it on the album 6 Pieces of Silver, as a bonus track on the CD reissue, although this placement is not confirmed. A later live version appears on the album Live at Newport '58.
