Misterioso is a jazz composition by Thelonious Monk, credited to him alone, with no lyrics in its original form. The Thelonious Monk Quartet recorded it on 2 July 1948, and it was first released in 1949 on the album Genius of Modern Music for Blue Note. The tune is classed as hard bop. Its best-known version is a live recording by the Thelonious Monk Quartet at the Five Spot Café in New York on 7 August 1958, released by Riverside as the album Misterioso in December 1958. Produced by Orrin Keepnews, the record features Roy Haynes, Ahmed Abdul-Malik and Johnny Griffin. The album is one of the first successful live recordings of Monk's music. Many other artists have since recorded the tune, among them Sonny Rollins, J.J. Johnson, Kenny Barron, Woody Shaw, Kronos Quartet, Lucio Dalla, Randy Weston and Barney Wilen.
