"In the Wee Small Hours of the Morning" is a 1955 popular song with music by David Mann and lyrics by Bob Hilliard. Mann and Hilliard wrote it during a session after midnight at Hilliard's home in New Jersey. Mann was about to leave for New York when Hilliard asked him to stay and try some impromptu songwriting. Mann came up with the tune, and Hilliard quickly wrote the lyric. Frank Sinatra introduced the song as the title track of his 1955 Capitol album In the Wee Small Hours, arranged by Nelson Riddle. The original recording was made on 17 February 1955 at KHJ Studios in Hollywood, produced by Voyle Gilmore. Released in April 1955, the album is often described as one of the first concept albums. Later recordings include versions by Johnny Mathis (1957), Andy Williams (1959), Julie London (1960), Art Blakey, Oscar Peterson, Johnny Hartman, Astrud Gilberto (1969), Carly Simon (1990) and Barbra Streisand (2009). It is a traditional pop ballad with an English lyric.
