"One of These Things First" is a song written by Nick Drake, who composed both the music and the lyrics, and it is sung in English. Drake recorded it for his second studio album, Bryter Layter, released by Island Records on 5 March 1971 and produced by Joe Boyd. John Wood engineered the recording at Sound Techniques in London. The song is the fourth track on side one and runs about 4:52. On this recording Paul Harris plays piano, Ed Carter plays bass and Mike Kowalski plays drums. Contemporary reviews of the album were mostly positive. The song later featured in the 2004 film Garden State and its soundtrack, and in the 2008 film Seven Pounds. Other artists have recorded it, including Susanna Hoffs, Emeli Sandé and Christopher O'Riley.
