"Light My Fire" is a 1967 song by the American rock band The Doors, released on their debut album, The Doors (Elektra, January 1967). Guitarist Robby Krieger wrote most of it in early 1966. John Densmore suggested the Latin rhythm and snare-hit opening, Jim Morrison wrote the second verse and part of the chorus, and Ray Manzarek added the Bach-influenced organ introduction. Recorded in September 1966 at Sunset Sound Recorders and produced by Paul A. Rothchild, the album version runs 7:06, while the edited single of April 1967 runs 2:52.
Notated in A minor, the extended solo moves between A minor and B minor, the progression John Coltrane used in "My Favorite Things". The genre is psychedelic rock, and the song is among the earliest recordings of that style. It reached No. 1 on the Billboard Hot 100 for three weeks in 1967. José Feliciano's 1968 cover reached No. 3 and won the 1969 Grammy for Best Male Pop Vocal Performance. The Grammy Hall of Fame inducted the original recording in 1998.
