"How Little We Know" is a song with music by Hoagy Carmichael and lyrics by Johnny Mercer, written in 1944 for the Warner Bros film To Have and Have Not. In the film, the character Slim, played by Lauren Bacall, performs it with Carmichael at the piano. A young Andy Williams recorded the song for the film as a possible alternative track to dub Bacall's low voice, but Bacall claimed that her own singing was used. After the film's release, a recording by Judy Johnson became a hit. British singer Steve Conway's version was released by Columbia in 1948, and Nick Perito and his orchestra recorded an instrumental cover for Muzak's Stimulus Progression program in the 1970s. The song has been covered periodically since, most recently in 1999 by Michael Feinstein with the Maynard Ferguson Big Band on the album Big City Rhythms.
It should not be confused with "(How Little It Matters) How Little We Know", a song by Carolyn Leigh and Phil Springer that Frank Sinatra first recorded in 1956.
