Bean and the Boys is an instrumental bebop tune composed by the American jazz tenor saxophonist Coleman Hawkins (1904-1969). It is a contrafact of "Lover Come Back to Me": Hawkins wrote new melodies over the original chord changes. English-language sources date the composition to 1948, although one database gives 1940 as the publication date. The original recording was made by Coleman Hawkins and his orchestra in November 1946 and first released on a 78 rpm single titled "Cocktails for Two". The tune has since been recorded by many artists, including Bud Powell, Art Blakey, Jackie McLean and Tommy Flanagan, as well as Barry Harris, who recorded it on Magnificent in 1969, and Bill Mays, whose version appeared on Bick's Bag in 2004.
