"Get Back" is a rock and roll song written by Paul McCartney and credited to the Lennon-McCartney partnership. Its melody grew out of unstructured jamming at Twickenham Studios on 7 January 1969, and McCartney reworked a line from George Harrison's "Sour Milk Sea" into its lyrics. Billy Preston, an old friend of the band, played Fender Rhodes electric piano on the recording, and John Lennon worked out a prominent lead guitar part. Released by Apple Records on 11 April 1969, the single was credited to "The Beatles with Billy Preston" at the band's request, the only Beatles single to credit another artist. It reached number one in the UK for six weeks from 23 April 1969 and topped the US Billboard Hot 100 for five weeks, the band's 17th American number one, and it topped charts in many other countries. The song was performed three times at the rooftop concert of 30 January 1969. A version produced by Phil Spector, with a studio chat intro, appears on Let It Be (1970), and later releases include 1, Past Masters and Anthology 3, which features the rooftop performance.
