"The Dolphin" (Portuguese title "Golfinho") is a bossa nova tune and jazz instrumental standard. Its music was written by the Brazilian pianist Luiz Eça (1936-1992), a member of the Tamba Trio, who is its sole credited composer. The original recording was made by the Tamba 4 in September 1967 and first released on the album We and the Sea, issued in Brazil in 1967 or 1968. An English lyric version is credited to Reuben Fisher, and some listings give the variant title "Daulphine". The tune is in the key of E. Stan Getz, Bill Evans, Denny Zeitlin, Michel Legrand, John McLaughlin and Jacky Terrasson are among its interpreters, and Evans recorded it with orchestra in February 1971. Zeitlin also recorded it with Charlie Haden and Tom Keenlyside.
