"Mademoiselle chante le blues" is a 1987 French song with music by Didier Barbelivien and lyrics by Bob Mehdi (also spelled Medhi). Barbelivien first offered the title to Nicoletta, who recorded it only after her Brecht and Weill tour. After Nicole Croisille reportedly declined it, he gave it to Patricia Kaas, who recorded it in 1987 at Studio CBE in Paris with producer Joël Cartigny and arranger Bernard Estardy.
Released as a single in November 1987 on Polydor and PolyGram, with "Patricia voudrait bien" on the B-side, it was Kaas's second single and her first hit. It debuted at No. 29 in France, peaked at No. 7 in early 1988, reached No. 24 on the European Hot 100 and was certified Silver in France. It is also track nine on her debut album "Mademoiselle chante..." (1988), and Kaas performed it on her tours in 1991, 1994, 1998 and 2005. It remains one of her most emblematic songs.
