Too Young is a popular song from 1951, with music by Sidney Lippman and lyrics by Sylvia Dee. It became a standard and has been recorded many times with English lyrics. The earliest US version was made in November 1950 by Victor Young and His Orchestra, with a vocal chorus by Louanne Hogan, and was released by Decca in December 1950 as "Be My Love". Nat King Cole recorded it at Capitol Records in February 1951, and his version reached No. 1 on the Billboard chart in June 1951, staying there for five weeks. It sold a million copies and was Billboard's best-selling song of 1951. Other versions that year came from Patty Andrews, Toni Arden, Richard Hayes and Jimmy Young, whose recording topped the UK sheet-music charts. Donny Osmond had a successful single version in 1972. The song was also among the early efforts by record labels to reach a young audience, which showed that young people had buying power.
