"Isn't This a Lovely Day (To Be Caught in the Rain)" is a jazz and pop vocal standard with words and music by Irving Berlin. It was written for the 1935 RKO film Top Hat, in which Fred Astaire introduced it in the rain-soaked gazebo scene with Ginger Rogers. Astaire recorded it with Johnny Green and His Orchestra in New York on June 27, 1935, and the record was released that August on Brunswick 7487. This version reached No. 3 on the charts of the day. The song was published in 1935 by Berlin Irving Music Corp.
Astaire recorded it again in 1953 and 1975. Later recordings include versions by Billie Holiday (1955), Ella Fitzgerald and Louis Armstrong (1956), Sarah Vaughan and Billy Eckstine (1957), Dick Haymes (1957), Petula Clark (1961), Tony Bennett (1987), Stacey Kent (2000), Diana Krall (2006) and Seth MacFarlane (2017).
