"Almost Like Being in Love" is a song with music by Frederick Loewe and lyrics by Alan Jay Lerner, written for the 1947 Broadway musical Brigadoon. David Brooks and Marion Bell first sang it on stage in the Broadway production, and the original cast recording was made in March 1947. In the show, the song is sung in Act I, at the MacLaren home on the morning of Jean's wedding, when Jeff notices that Tommy is so happy he can barely contain it. The lyrics are in English.
It was performed in the 1954 film version with Gene Kelly and Cyd Charisse and later became a standard. In 1947, three versions were hits in the US: Frank Sinatra's reached no. 20, while Mildred Bailey's and Mary Martin's reached no. 21. Michael Johnson's 1978 downbeat ballad reached no. 32 in the US and was a Top 10 Adult Contemporary hit in the US and Canada. Other notable recordings include several by Nat King Cole, one of which closes the 1993 film Groundhog Day, Ella Fitzgerald with Dizzy Gillespie (1962), Erroll Garner (1966), Diana Krall (2020) and Rod Stewart with Jools Holland (2024).
