"Diane" is a popular song with music by Ernö Rapée and words by Lew Pollack. It was written in 1927 as the theme song for the silent film 7th Heaven and is sung in English. James Melton is named as the original performer, though no date is recorded for that recording. The Troubadours recorded a waltz version in November 1927. In 1928 the Nat Shilkret Orchestra had a major hit with the song, and other successful versions that year were by Nathan Glantz and Franklyn Baur. The Bachelors' 1964 Decca single reached number one in the UK Singles Chart, number two in Ireland and New Zealand, and number 10 on the Billboard Hot 100. The Miles Davis Quintet recorded it as an instrumental in 1961 for the album Steamin'. The title is sometimes confused with the Beach Boys' "My Diane". The composition entered the public domain on 1 January 2023.
