"Could It Be You" is a song by Cole Porter, who wrote both the music and the lyrics for the Broadway musical Something for the Boys. The show, with a book by Herbert Fields and Dorothy Fields and produced by Mike Todd, opened at the Alvin Theatre on January 7, 1943, with Ethel Merman as Blossom Hart, and ran for 422 performances. It premiered in the West End at the Coliseum Theatre on March 30, 1944, and a 1944 film was also made. In the musical, Staff Sgt. Rocky Fulton and the Boys sing the song in Act I, and Rocky Fulton and the Ensemble reprise it in Act II. Sources do not document the song's form, original recording or reception. Later recordings include one by Duke Ellington & His Orchestra and a 1985 Ethel Merman cast-album master, and the song is a standard of the Porter songbook.
