"Immigrant Song" is a hard rock song whose music was composed by Jimmy Page, while Robert Plant wrote the lyrics, although some listings also credit Page as lyricist. Led Zeppelin released it in 1970 as the opening track of the album Led Zeppelin III, and the US single followed that November on Atlantic, backed by "Hey, Hey, What Can I Do". It reached number 16 on the Billboard Hot 100. The song is built on a staccato, repeating riff by Page and drummer John Bonham, with John Paul Jones entering in the ninth measure. It is in F sharp minor at about 112 beats per minute and lasts 2:26. Page produced it, and Plant's wailing vocals are a central feature. The band opened its concerts with the song from 1970 to 1972, first playing it live at the Bath Festival. Page and Jeff Beck performed it at the 2009 Rock and Roll Hall of Fame induction. Rolling Stone ranked it 18th in its 2023 list of the 100 greatest heavy metal songs. It has also been used in films including School of Rock, Shrek the Third, The Girl with the Dragon Tattoo and Thor: Ragnarok, and it has been covered by a great many artists.
