“Rock with You” is a 1979 song by Michael Jackson, written and composed by Rod Temperton, who also wrote the English lyrics. Quincy Jones produced it. It was recorded in December 1978 for the album Off the Wall and released by Epic Records in October 1979 as the album's second single; in Europe it was the third, issued on 1 February 1980. Temperton had first offered it to Karen Carpenter for her first solo album, and she turned it down. A disco, funk and pop song, it runs 3:38 on the album and 3:20 as a single. Its personnel included Greg Phillinganes and Michael Boddicker on synthesizers, John Robinson on drums and Bobby Watson on bass. Critics were generally positive; Rolling Stone praised its unobtrusive feel. It reached number one on the US Billboard Hot 100 for four weeks in early 1980 and on the R&B chart for five, and is considered one of the last hits of the disco era. Bruce Gowers directed its music video, filmed in 1979. Jackson performed the song on the Destiny, Triumph and Victory tours, the Bad tour and in an Off the Wall medley on the HIStory tour. The 1998 version by D'Influence reached number 30 in the UK.
