"Bye-Ya" is an instrumental jazz composition by the American pianist Thelonious Monk, one of the founders of bebop, who is its sole composer. The earliest documented recording was made by the Thelonious Monk Trio at the Prestige sessions of 15 October 1952. That performance was first released in 1953 on the album "Thelonious", and a 45 rpm single from 1952 couples the piece with "Sweet and Lovely" by the same trio.
Since then, many jazz musicians have recorded the tune in small-group and big-band settings. Notable later versions include those by Steve Lacy (1959), Paul Motian (1988), Roy Haynes (1992) and Earl Klugh (2008). Because the composition has no lyrics, it exists purely as an instrumental piece.
