Rocket Love is a song written and composed by Stevie Wonder, who also wrote its lyrics. Wonder recorded it for the album Hotter than July, released on the Tamla label on 29 September 1980, where it appears as track 3 on side one, running 4:39. The album was recorded in 1979 and 1980, mainly at Wonderland Studios in Los Angeles. On the recording Wonder sings lead and plays synthesizer, Fender Rhodes and bass synthesizer, while Paul Riser arranged the strings. The track is a soul ballad-like piece with a funk-soul feel. Wonder's version remains the original, and later artists have approached the song both as a vocal number and as an instrumental. Svante Thuresson, Milira, Black Coffey, Sophie Milman and the Karel Boehlee Trio have sung it, while Stanley Turrentine, Frank Colon and Matt Lemmler have recorded it as instrumentals.
