"Hocus-Pocus" is a jazz tune by the American trumpeter and composer Lee Morgan (1938-1972), who is credited as its sole composer. It is written in the key of F. The original recording was made on 21 December 1963 at Van Gelder Studio in Englewood Cliffs, New Jersey, and first released in 1964 on the Blue Note album The Sidewinder, where it appears as track 5, running 6:21. The personnel on that recording were Morgan on trumpet, Joe Henderson on tenor saxophone, Barry Harris on piano, Bob Cranshaw on double bass and Billy Higgins on drums. The piece is instrumental, with no lyrics.
Later recordings include versions by Benny Green, Russell Malone and Christian McBride, and by Frank Potenza, both from 1999, as well as those by Graham Dechter (2012), Terell Stafford (2015) and the H2 Big Band (2015).
