"Wish You Were Here" is a song by Pink Floyd. David Gilmour composed the music, and Roger Waters wrote most of the lyrics. It is the title track of the band's 1975 album of the same name, released in the UK on 12 September 1975 after recording at Abbey Road Studios in London. The song is in G and has a simple, country-style feel. Gilmour sings lead and opens with a 12-string acoustic riff processed to sound like an AM radio, followed by a violin part by Stéphane Grappelli, whom Gilmour asked for a "country fiddle" sound.
The structure runs from the intro riff through verses and a bridge to a scat-sung final solo, which crossfades into wind effects and "Shine On You Crazy Diamond". The lyrics are often read as a tribute to Syd Barrett, although Waters has said they are directed at himself and remain open to interpretation. Gilmour called it one of the band's best songs, and Rolling Stone ranked it 302nd on its 500 Greatest Songs list in 2021. The song has been performed live since the 1977 tour, and Waters and Clapton played it at Tsunami Aid 2005. Numerous covers have followed.
