Ecaroh is an instrumental hard bop tune by the composer Horace Silver, and it has no lyrics. The Horace Silver Trio recorded it on 20 October 1952, and the recording was first released in March 1953 on the album New Faces, New Sounds. Since the tune is wordless, its identity rests on its melody and harmony, which are the parts a player takes up first when learning it.
In the years that followed, the tune was taken up by other jazz groups and soloists. The Jazz Messengers recorded it in 1956 and The Wes Montgomery Trio in 1959. Later versions were made by Gary Burton & Friends in 1997, by Joe Chambers in 2010 and by Louis Hayes in 2017, a span that shows how the piece has stayed in the jazz repertoire across several decades.
