"Under a Blanket of Blue" is an American popular song with music by Jerry Livingston and lyrics by Marty Symes and Al J. Neiburg. Santly Bros., Inc. published it in 1933, the same year the trio also had "It's the Talk of the Town" as a hit. Glen Gray and the Casa Loma Orchestra recorded it on 26 May 1933, with a vocal by Kenny Sargent, on Brunswick 6584. Their recording reached number 6 on Billboard on 1 July 1933, and a Don Bestor recording reached number 8 a month later. Early sources credit the composer as Jerry Levinson. AllMusic calls it a notable composition that remained popular with jazz artists, and it became a standard sung by vocalists and played by instrumentalists.
Later versions include those by Coleman Hawkins (1944), Woody Herman (1947), Stan Kenton (1953), Benny Goodman (1954), Ella Fitzgerald and Louis Armstrong (1956), Doris Day (1957), Anita O'Day and Cal Tjader (1962), Johnny Mathis (1964) and Stacey Kent (2001). Dale Evans sings it in the film Bells of Rosarita (1945), and Frank Sinatra performed it on NBC Radio in 1955.
