"This I Dig of You" is an uptempo hard bop composition by the tenor saxophonist Hank Mobley, who is its sole credited writer. It was recorded on 7 February 1960 at Van Gelder Studio in Englewood Cliffs, New Jersey, by a quartet of Mobley on tenor saxophone, Wynton Kelly on piano, Paul Chambers on bass and Art Blakey on drums. The session was produced by Alfred Lion for Blue Note (BLP 4031). The track appeared later in 1960 on the album Soul Station, where it was one of four new Mobley compositions.
Set against the bluesy title track, the piece gives the album a faster, driving contrast. Reviewers received the record warmly: one called it a stellar set, and DownBeat praised it as a well-balanced and tasty blowing session. The Penguin Guide and the Rolling Stone Jazz Record Guide each awarded it four stars out of five. Since then, many other jazz groups have recorded the tune, which has become part of the repertoire of small hard bop bands.
