Close Enough for Love is a 1979 jazz standard that started as the theme song for the film Agatha, which starred Dustin Hoffman and Vanessa Redgrave. It was composed by Johnny Mandel with lyrics by Paul Williams. The original release came from Peggy Lee in 1979 as the title track of her album Close Enough for Love, and Andy Williams later featured it as the title track on his 1986 album. Over the years it has been recorded by many great artists including Tony Bennett, Stan Getz, Monty Alexander, Lena Horne, Shirley Horn, Dianne Reeves and Marian McPartland. A notable version by Tony Bennett appeared on his 2004 album The Art of Romance, which was arranged by Mandel and won the Grammy for Best Traditional Pop Album. The tune remains a popular jazz standard and is performed widely in both jazz and vocal pop repertoires.
