From This Moment On is a 1950 song written by Cole Porter. It was originally written for the musical Out of This World but was not used on Broadway and later appeared in MGM’s 1953 film Kiss Me Kate, sung by Ann Miller, Tommy Rall, Bob Fosse and Bobby Van; in the 1999 Kiss Me Kate revival it was performed as a duet by Harrison Howell and Lilli Vanessi. The tune has become a jazz and pop standard. The first release was a Doris Day single in November 1950 with an orchestra conducted by Frank Comstock. Notable recordings include Guy Lombardo (1950), Ella Fitzgerald on Sings the Cole Porter Song Book (1956), Frank Sinatra (A Swingin’ Affair! 1957), Lena Horne (1957), The Carpenters (Live at the Palladium, 1976), Jimmy Somerville (1990), Diana Krall (From This Moment On, 2006) and Brad Mehldau (Live in Tokyo, 2004). It has appeared on various albums and remains a staple of the jazz and show tune repertoire.
