It's De-Lovely is a 1936 show tune written by Cole Porter for the Broadway musical Red Hot and Blue. It was introduced by Ethel Merman and Bob Hope and became a hit in late 1936 and early 1937 with recordings by Leo Reisman, Eddy Duchin, Shep Fields, and Will Osborne. The song plays on the prefix de to coin the neologism de-lovely, meaning delightful, delicious and lovely. It later joined the Anything Goes score, appearing in the 1956 film version and the 1962 revival, and was performed by Robbie Williams in the 2004 Cole Porter biopic De-Lovely. The tune has been covered many times across genres, appearing on albums such as Ella Fitzgerald Sings the Cole Porter Song Book and Dinah Shore Sings.
