"26-2" is an instrumental jazz composition by John Coltrane, who is its sole composer. It is a contrafact of Charlie Parker's "Confirmation", reworked with altered chord changes in the approach known as Coltrane Changes, the same harmonic framework used in "Giant Steps". The piece is in the hard bop style.
The original recording was made on 26 October 1960 with McCoy Tyner on piano, Steve Davis on bass and Elvin Jones on drums. It was first released in May 1970 by Atlantic Records on the compilation The Coltrane Legacy. On this recording Coltrane plays the first statement of the melody on tenor saxophone and the last on soprano saxophone. Later recorded versions include those by Joe Lovano (1995), Mark Turner (1998), Jakob Dinesen and Kurt Rosenwinkel (2002), and the Kenny Werner Trio (2008).
