"Say It (Over and Over Again)" is a pop and jazz standard, a 1940 song with music by Jimmy McHugh and lyrics by Frank Loesser. It was published on March 15, 1940, and featured in the Paramount film Buck Benny Rides Again, directed by Mark Sandrich and starring Jack Benny. The original recording was made on January 18, 1940, by Horace Heidt and His Musical Knights, with a vocal chorus by Virginia Le Ahn and Henry Russell, and issued as a 78 rpm single on Columbia. The lyrics are in English.
Several versions followed that year, including recordings by Glenn Miller with Ray Eberle, Tommy Dorsey with Frank Sinatra, Bob Crosby and Dinah Shore. The song later entered the jazz repertoire, and many jazz singers and instrumentalists have recorded it. John Coltrane's version appeared in 1963 on the album Ballads, and John Pizzarelli also recorded it.
