Mambo Inn is an instrumental mambo credited to Edgar Sampson, with Mario Bauzá and Bobby Woodlen also named as writers and Grace Sampson also listed among the credits. The original recording was made by Bobby Woodlen's Harlem Mambos and issued as an RCA Victor single in October 1953, with "Tales Of Boogee" on the B-side. The tune is in the key of F and is classed under jazz and Latin music, in the mambo style.
Count Basie & His Orchestra recorded it in February 1957. Early versions followed in the mid-1950s: the George Shearing Quintet recorded it in 1954, the Billy Taylor Trio with Candido and the Cal Tjader Quintet in 1956, and Machito and His Orchestra in the same year. Later recordings include those by Grant Green (1962), Michel Camilo (1997) and Arturo Sandoval (2009).
