"Blues March" is an instrumental jazz composition by Benny Golson, in 4/4 time with a long-meter introduction. Golson drew on the tradition of New Orleans marching bands, and the harmony is straightforward, with separate sections that suit improvisation. Leonard Feather described the theme's bugle-call quality. The tune is listed as a 1958 composition and is considered a jazz standard, commonly played by marching and other bands.
The original recording was made by Gigi Gryce in June 1958 for the album "Gigi Gryce". A widely known early version followed on Blue Mitchell's Riverside album Big 6, recorded in New York on 2 and 3 July 1958 with producer Orrin Keepnews; it was Mitchell's first album as leader. Art Blakey and the Jazz Messengers later recorded it, on Moanin' in October 1958 and at other sessions. Later versions include those by Cal Tjader, The 3 Sounds, Ray Bryant and Benny Golson with Curtis Fuller.
