"Embraceable You" is a jazz standard with music by George Gershwin and lyrics by Ira Gershwin. Written in 1928 for the unpublished operetta East Is West, it was published in 1930 and included in that year's Broadway musical Girl Crazy, where Ginger Rogers performed it in a song and dance routine choreographed by Fred Astaire. Ginger Rogers and Allen Kearns are credited as its original performers.
Billie Holiday's 1944 recording was inducted into the Grammy Hall of Fame in 2005. Other notable versions include those by Nat King Cole (1943), Judy Garland in the 1943 film Girl Crazy, Frank Sinatra (1944 and 1960), Ella Fitzgerald on her 1959 songbook album, Charlie Parker as "Cool Bird" (1947), Chet Baker (1957), Ornette Coleman (1961) and Herbie Hancock (1998). CBS News included the song in its 2026 list of the 250 essential American songs.
