"Herzog" is an instrumental post-bop composition by Bobby Hutcherson, who is its sole writer. It was recorded on 12 July 1968 at Plaza Sound Studios in New York City, with Hutcherson on vibraphone, Harold Land on tenor saxophone, Chick Corea on piano, Reggie Johnson on bass and Joe Chambers on drums. The recording was first released on the album Total Eclipse (Blue Note, 1969), where it opens the record at 6:36. The album was produced by Duke Pearson and Francis Wolff.
AllMusic called Total Eclipse perhaps the best of the post-bop albums Hutcherson and Land recorded together, and DownBeat gave it four stars out of five. The composition, in the key of F, has since been recorded by Peter Zak (2012) and Richard Baratta (2023), and also by Claudio Roditi and Johannes Enders.
