Come Back to Me is a song with music by Burton Lane and lyrics by Alan Jay Lerner, written for the 1965 Broadway musical On a Clear Day You Can See Forever, which was based loosely on John L. Balderston's 1926 play Berkeley Square. In the original Broadway production, which opened at the Mark Hellinger Theatre on October 17, 1965, and ran for 280 performances, the song is sung by Dr. Mark Bruckner in Act II, followed by a reprise. Critics noted the show's lushly melodic score. The original cast recording has the song sung by John Cullum. It was also included in the 1970 film directed by Vincente Minnelli, starring Barbra Streisand and Yves Montand. Cherry Poppin' Daddies recorded it in 1994, releasing the version on Zoot Suit Riot in 1997, and re-recorded it for the 2014 Rat Pack tribute Please Return the Evening. The 2011 Broadway revival had Mark and Warren sing it. The song has become a standard in jazz and vocal repertoire, with versions by Johnny Mathis, Peggy Lee, Dusty Springfield, Sinatra and Ellington, Shirley Horn, Barbra Streisand and Rita Reys, among others.
