"Can't Help Falling in Love" was written by Hugo Peretti, Luigi Creatore and George David Weiss, and its melody is based on "Plaisir d'amour", a French love song composed in 1784 by Jean-Paul-Égide Martini. The song was first written from a woman's perspective as "Can't Help Falling in Love with Him". Elvis Presley recorded it with The Jordanaires on 23 March 1961 at Radio Recorders in Hollywood for the film Blue Hawaii. Released as a single in November 1961 with "Rock-A-Hula Baby" on the B-side, it reached No. 1 in the UK in 1962 for four weeks and No. 2 on the US Billboard Hot 100, and it topped the US Adult Contemporary chart for six weeks.
Presley used it as a show finale in the late 1960s and 1970s, including the 1968 NBC special and Aloha from Hawaii via Satellite in 1973. Covers followed from Perry Como, Doris Day, Bob Dylan, Shirley Bassey, UB40 and Kacey Musgraves, among others. Rolling Stone ranked it No. 403 among the 500 greatest songs in 2012, and it is a popular first-dance wedding song.
