Moon and Sand is a song in D, with music by Morty Palitz and Alec Wilder and lyrics by William Engvick. The earliest recording found for it is by Xavier Cugat and His Waldorf-Astoria Orchestra, with a vocal chorus by Carmen Castillo, made on 26 August 1941 and released as the single "Ma-Ma-Maria". Guitarist Kenny Burrell recorded it in 1965 for the album Guitar Forms, and again in December 1979 at Coast Records for the album Moon and Sand, issued on Concord Jazz, where it is the opening track. Later versions include recordings by Chet Baker, Eileen Farrell, Mike Campbell, The Mountain Goats and Michelle Lordi, and the song has been performed by singers and instrumentalists working in very different styles.
