Budo is a bebop tune credited to Miles Davis and Bud Powell. It is an instrumental with no lyrics, and the piece is a tribute to Bud Powell. The original recording was made on 21 January 1949 in New York by Miles Davis and His Orchestra, also known as the Miles Davis Nonet, at the first Birth of the Cool session. It is one of four tracks from that session and was released in 1949 on two 78 rpm singles. It was later included on the 1957 Capitol compilation Birth of the Cool. The arrangement is built on a bebop head, with solos by Davis, Gerry Mulligan, Lee Konitz and Winding framed by the theme. Later recordings include versions by Bud Powell in 1953, Gerry Mulligan, Bobby McFerrin and Joey DeFrancesco. The tune's style is cool jazz.
