"Crazy Rhythm" is a 32-bar swing show tune written in 1928, with lyrics by Irving Caesar and music by Joseph Meyer and Roger Wolfe Kahn, for the Broadway musical Here's Howe, a show that is largely forgotten today. Roger Wolfe Kahn and His Orchestra recorded it for Victor in New York in April 1928, with Franklyn Baur singing the chorus. A version by Whispering Jack Smith, sung in a soft, whispered manner, became one of the most popular recordings of the song.
Doris Day and Gene Nelson performed it in the 1950 film Tea for Two, where it is presented to backers of a planned No, No, Nanette. Later performers include Bing Crosby, Tony Bennett, Benny Carter (with Coleman Hawkins on Further Definitions, 1961), Ella Fitzgerald and Shirley Bassey. The song became a popular jazz standard from the 1930s on. It was often the closing music of the BBC's The Goon Show and is heard in the 1979 film The Jerk.
