I Want to Talk About You is a jazz ballad with music and lyrics by Billy Eckstine, who is credited as its sole composer and lyricist. Eckstine recorded it on 5 December 1944 with his own orchestra, singing the vocal himself. The recording was first released in November 1945 as a 78 rpm single on the DeLuxe label. John Coltrane recorded the song in 1958, and that performance was later issued on the album Newport '63. Other notable later versions come from Jean-Luc Ponty, Paquito D'Rivera, Pharoah Sanders, Nancy Wilson, and Ella Fitzgerald with Joe Pass. Its later interpreters span jazz instrumentalists and vocalists.
