"Inútil Paisagem" is a bossa nova song composed by Antônio Carlos Jobim, with Portuguese lyrics by Aloysio de Oliveira (1914-1995), a Brazilian record producer, singer and composer who ran the Elenco label, which launched bossa nova names including Jobim. The title translates literally as "Useless Landscape". The song was first recorded by Wanda Sá, a Brazilian bossa nova singer and guitarist, in April 1964 for her album Vagamente, released that year on Odeon.
Later recordings followed soon after. Dorival Caymmi and Tom Jobim recorded it in 1964 for Caymmi Visita Tom e Leva Seus Filhos, and the Sérgio Mendes Trio, with Jobim and Art Farmer, included it on Bossa Nova York that same year. Frank Sinatra and Jobim recorded it in 1967 for Reprise, Ella Fitzgerald sang it in 1969, and Elis Regina and Jobim recorded it in 1974 for Elis & Tom. An English-language version, "If You Never Come to Me", has lyrics by Ray Gilbert, and many singers have also recorded the song under the titles "Useless Landscape" and "If You Never Come to Me".
