"Moon Over Bourbon Street" was written by Sting, who composed both the music and the lyrics in New Orleans. It was recorded in June 1985 for The Dream of the Blue Turtles (A&M, 1985), his debut solo album, and was released as the fifth single from that album on 7 February 1986. Its B-side was "The Ballad of Mack the Knife", and the single peaked at No. 44 on the UK Singles chart.
The title refers to Bourbon Street in the French Quarter of New Orleans. The song is known as a jazz-tinged pop rock number. Sting re-recorded it in 2003 as the B-side to "Send Your Love".
