"Unforgettable" is a traditional pop ballad written by Irving Gordon, who composed the music and wrote the lyrics. He wrote it in 1951 under the working title "Uncomparable", but his music publisher asked him to change the title to "Unforgettable". The song is best known through Nat King Cole's recording, made in August 1951 at Capitol Studios in Hollywood with producer Lee Gillette for Capitol Records. Released as a single in October 1951, it reached number 14 on the Billboard Best-Selling Pop Singles chart in 1951 and 1952. Cole's version also appeared on his 1952 album Unforgettable, which featured an arrangement by Nelson Riddle, and he re-recorded the song in stereo in 1961 for The Nat King Cole Story. The original was inducted into the Grammy Hall of Fame in 2000. In 1991 Natalie Cole released a duet built from her father's 1951 recording, produced by David Foster, on the album Unforgettable... with Love; it won the 1992 Grammy Awards for Song of the Year and Record of the Year. Yvette Giraud recorded a French version, "Inoubliable", in 1953.
