Jersey Bounce is a swing-era standard with English lyrics by Buddy Feyne, who used the pseudonym Robert B. Wright. The music is credited to Tiny Bradshaw, Edward (Eddie) Johnson and Bobby Plater. The first recording was made by Earl Hines and His Orchestra on 3 April 1941 and released as a single on 25 April 1941.
The tune's best-known success came in 1942, when Benny Goodman and his orchestra recorded it as an instrumental, and it reached No. 1 for four weeks. In the same year Jimmy Dorsey reached No. 9 and Shep Fields No. 15. Other versions were recorded by Glenn Miller, Harry James, Red Norvo, Jan Savitt, Ella Fitzgerald, Ella Mae Morse and The King Sisters. During World War II the title was a popular nickname for aircraft, including B-24D and B-17 bombers of Eighth Air Force groups and a P-51 fighter series, and after the war a US Navy Dragonfly helicopter of USS New Jersey bore the name.
