"Un-Break My Heart" is a pop and R&B power ballad in B minor, lasting about four minutes and 25 seconds. Diane Warren wrote the music and lyrics, and David Foster produced it. Warren wrote it in 1995 as both a ballad and a dance song, and L.A. Reid convinced Toni Braxton to record it. Braxton's version was recorded in Los Angeles in 1995 and released in 1996 on her second studio album, Secrets (LaFace/Arista), and as its second single. It became her signature song. It reached number one on the Billboard Hot 100 for eleven weeks, and number one on Dance Club Play and Adult Contemporary. It was named the most successful song by a solo artist in the Hot 100's history. It reached the top five in more than ten European countries, and number one in several of them, and has sold over 10 million copies worldwide. It won the Grammy for Best Female Pop Vocal Performance at the 39th Annual Grammy Awards in 1997. Bille Woodruff directed the video. Remixes were made by Hex Hector, Frankie Knuckles and Soul Solution. Weezer and Il Divo are among the artists who have covered it, and a Spanish version, "Regresa a Mi", appears on the album.
